Bansko
Bansko is a
resort of great contrasts with an undefeatable national atmosphere. In this
secluded place with crooked narrow streets, where you can easily lose your way,
old stone fortress-like houses, which once protected their inhabitants from
Turkish invaders, stand side by side with ultra modern hotels and skiing
facilities. The overall picture is complemented by the magnificent Pirin
mountains and a great number of taverns — “mechany” in Bulgarian — with rivers
of red wine and the smell of pork in the air, where the heavy-browed Macedonian
“gayduki” look encouragingly on the
feasting tourists.
